Kyle Hackett (b. 1989, Still Pond, MD) is based in Baltimore, MD. Hackett is currently working at the Contemporary Artists Center in NY and will return to Baltimore as resident artist at the Downtown Cultural Art Center. He earned his BFA in Fine Arts, as a McNair Scholar from the University of Delaware and his MFA in Painting from the Hoffberger School of Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art. Hackett has completed multiple residencies at Vermont Studio Center where he was the recipient of the Civil Society Institute Fellowship. He has received numerous honors and awards, including Best in Show Award at the 2014 Bethesda Painting Awards Exhibition, making him the youngest winner in the contest’s history. Hackett has exhibited work in Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts, Florida, Washington D.C. and New York.
Kyle Hackett is a visual artist primarily working in oil painting. Manipulating the authority of representational portraiture, his work deconstructs historical ideas of secure identity and fixed-painting techniques in an attempt to clarify his contemporary insecurities about racial and socioeconomic conditions.
