Majesty Reyes
My name is Majesty Reyes and I am a lesbian Latina artist. My art practice explores the intermingling of emotion, identity, and consciousness. At its core, my work prioritizes the inner world of the human mind and how it shapes the way we move through life. I primarily express this through large-scale paintings, using traditional materials such as canvas and acrylic paint.
I have been a painter for over ten years, and while technical skill is an important foundation of my practice, it is not the driving force behind it. Instead, I use my personal history and emotional experiences as essential tools in the creation of my work. My process is deeply informed by my emotional world and lived experience, particularly my engagement with therapy and mental health work. As a Latinx artist, I have spent years addressing areas of mental health that are often overlooked or stigmatized within my community. The exercises, language, and growth I have gained through therapy have become a visual roadmap in my painting practice.
Through this process, I confront and make visible subjects that are often considered “taboo,” such as anxiety and its presence in everyday life. By giving sustained attention and space to my inner world, my work invites viewers to do the same. I aim to create paintings that allow for honesty, vulnerability, and self awareness, both for myself and for those who encounter my work.
Ultimately, my paintings are not meant to be solely analyzed or dissected as objects. They function as spaces for pause, reflection, and emotional presence; moments of stillness that encourage viewers to engage with their own truths and authenticity.
