Ayathma Wickramasinghe
Ayathma Wickramasinghe is a 20 year-old Film Photographer based in Maryland. She was born in Sri Lanka but grew up in Maryland. She is currently majoring in Fine Art Photography at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore. Her work concentrates on capturing creative fashion portraiture of her friends shedding light to a unique style of film photography. She considers herself to be a universal artist where she is able to express herself through many mediums. Her main focus with her photo career is to become an inspiration to other women who struggle to overcome societal ideals of what a women should be doing. “Having a career in the Arts is looked down upon and never taken seriously and it is difficult to rise through all the negativity. I want to show female artists back home to keep working hard on their passion and to never give up. It may sound cliche but it is an issue that is still present in Sri Lanka and I am hoping to change that.” – Ayathma
She hopes that she can make this change and create a safe space for artists like herself to create in.
