Chi Mao
I am a jewelry designer and an artist from Taiwan. I graduated from the MICA Mt Royal Program in 2017. My work is about expressing my philosophy toward this universe, my religion, and culture through the technique of jewelry making and sculpting. I am dedicated to exploding the meaning of jewelry and accessories and forming a new area combining jewelry into sculpture and installation. I mean to create poetic scenes leading people into illusional world through a physical one. My artwork is an experiment of spatial arrangements which connects concepts of past and future with an emphasis on the awe I feel when I contemplate known and unknown universal realms. I especially am curious about our role in the notions of time and space. As a practicing Buddhist, I grew up hearing stories about parallel universes and multi-dimensional cosmos as incontrovertible truths. Using these Buddhist axioms as a framework, I constructed spatial environments to describe these “on-going truths”.
