Juyi Mao
Juyi Mao was born in Hefei, China in 1991. He received his BA in Painting Department from the Xiamen University in 2013 and is currently an MFA candidate at the Maryland Institute College of Art. He is a contemporary artist whose primary medium is video. He also has worked with a broad range of media, including drawing, installation, performance, sculpture, and sound to achieve his ideas. His practice is related to the mass media of the contemporary daily life, the role of new media, and the internet culture. His work is developed from research and the collection of moving image. He breaks boundaries of the definitions in order to explore non-traditional documentary that references history, the irony of comedy, and aesthetic narrative of music videos. His more recent work combines self-interview performance and didactic explanation to examine institutional critique. Juyi Mao has exhibited in the US and abroad, and now he lives and works in Baltimore, Maryland.
