Laura Benson
Laura Benson, the artist, is a Jersey girl that chose to relocate to Maryland over twenty-five years ago. She is a mother and grandmother of two. With no formal training, she has been creating ever since she was a small child. She creates in almost all media: oils, acrylics, pastels, pencil, charcoal, pen & ink, water colors, clay and jewelry.
Laura’s works are born from her heartfelt feelings, thoughts, and emotions. She also finds inspiration from the observation of society and all that is going on in one’s day. From this deep innerness, she is able to create a visual, an original work of art to be seen and felt by others.
Laura’s childhood dream was to one day make a difference and be able to always give back to others. Today she donates pieces of her works and/or their usage to several charitable organizations. She also does speaking engagements, private art instruction, and is the owner of Portable Paint Party – 3P.
Laura is also a published book/children’s book/CD cover illustrator. Her art has appeared in galleries and cultural centers, both locally and out of state. She has won several awards including First Place Professional Category in the National Arts Exhibit hosted by Johns Hopkins, and one of her pieces that she presented to Lady King Peggy hangs in the palace in Ghana.
Those that have come to know Laura and her works are always amazed at her ability to share not only every title for each piece, but also the stories behind the pieces. And because of this Laura has come to be known as The Story Teller.
Artist Statement
I the artist recognize that I have been truly blessed to been given such a natural spiritual talent. It is with this talent that I have been able to go places I could never have imagined possible. It is also through this talent that I have been able to grow and most of all find peace and become one with self while sharing a thought, feeling, observation, or emotion with the many.
