Madison Bell

I’m mainly a fiction writer and literary journalist, with a sideline as a blues musician. In the nineties, I dabbled in Japanese ink drawing under the influence of European artist Jean de la Fontaine. My wife, the poet Elizabeth Spires, had a long term interest in enso. She took me to a show of Master Hakuin at the Japan Society in New York. Seeing Hakuin’s images got me interested in trying to draw enso again and digital media turned out to be a way I could do it with some success.
