Mark S. Sanders
Mark S. Sanders (known as Markus) is an abstract sculptor who creates almost exclusively with reclaimed objects scavenged from the alleys of his home city of Baltimore. As an artist for 35 years, Markus has worked in nearly every aspect of creative art, including poetry, music, acting, and producing events for literary, visual, and performance art.
In 2014, he turned his attention solely to 3-D work, and now focuses exclusively on abstract assemblage in metal, wood, concrete, glass, and found objects. Markus often creates his work in series of 4, 8, 12, or more pieces that share a related feeling or theme, though he pursues no statements or social commentary.
His works have been purchased by collectors across the United States and in countries as far flung as Australia. Over the past two years, he has completed several commissioned works in a wide range of styles and materials, including a 10 foot tall, permanent outdoor installation of copper and steel on a collector’s Maryland property.
In 2016, he worked with the Overlea Community Association to create the Overlea ArtsFest, and has served as its curator and head juror since its inception.
