Mary Faye Claggett
Mary Faye Claggett is a native of Ashton, Maryland currently residing in Clinton, Maryland. After graduating Spelman College with a degree in Chemistry, Mary went on to pursue a career in clinical research, focusing in Oncology. In 2018, her own beloved elderly farmer/mechanic father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Mary used art as a way to de-stress while taking her father to/from chemotherapy in Baltimore. She became obsessed with acrylic pour painting, and with the pandemic came the time to devote to the practice.
Clinical research is very much a “global” professional, and Mary originally sent her initial paintings to coworkers all over the world, from The Netherlands, to Mumbai, India as a way to bring a few minutes during the Covid-19 pandemic. Heavily influenced by her parents devotion to the garden – hence the name of her business SugarbeetsArtFlow – and her father’s garage playground of mechanic’s tools, she experimented with furniture, various textiles, and other media. Of course heavily influenced by biology and chemistry. Mary is an acrylic paint fluid artist. Her own style could be described as scientific abstract fantasy with inspiration derived from nature. Since pouring art is derived from fluid, as opposed to the use of a utensil, such as a brush, the flow of liquid paint has a calming effect. Art to bring peace and serenity. She has been shown at Arts’tination Gallery at National Harbor, MD, and Wellspring Manor and Spa in Upper Marlboro, MD.
