Monica Heiser

monica-heiser-1

Monica Heiser’s large-scale psychedelic portraits and landscapes juxtapose historical events, personal and community identity, and spirituality to reflect upon on past and present American political and cultural issues in the hopes of finding and creating a more just and peaceful future. The themes she explores include the Movement for Black Lives, the spirituality of nature, and her practice of Buddhist meditation. Her art is influenced by revolutionary muralists like Diego Rivera and local Baltimore-based artists like Ernest Shaw. Monica hopes to collaborate with other muralists and artists in the DMV on larger-scale murals and community works to give back to and inspire the public. This May 2020, Monica will graduate from the Art Education 2nd Bachelor program at Towson University. Her love of working with children and her joy for making art inspire her to become a teaching artist and educator. Check out her website for more up-to-date discoveries in her return to learning, making art, and teaching.
