Yambe Tam
Yambe Tam was born in Indiana and graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. In graphic paintings, she fuses Eastern and Western art historical traditions to create a contemporary Asian-American aesthetic; this process also serves as a larger metaphor for modern globalization to show that cultural and ideological differences can coexist harmoniously in a 21st century hybrid. Primary subjects explored in Tam’s bodies of oil and metal leaf paintings include the idea of race and the impact of rapid industrialization on the environment.
